NEGOTIATIONS over the UK’s departure from the EU are ‘now in the endgame’, according to PM May, with both sides ‘working through the night to make progress’ she told the Lord Mayor’s Banquet in the City of London on Monday night.
May has already been warned by Tory MPs and members of her cabinet that the EU’s demands are totally unacceptable, and will see the UK being locked into a Customs Union where it will remain under the jurisdiction of the European Court indefinitely. In fact, the European Commission is preparing to publish its plans for a ‘no deal’ Brexit if there is not a breakthrough in the talks by the end of this week.
Drawn up by EC Secretary-General Martin Selmayr, it will highlight the ‘absolute chaos’ that will ensue if the UK leaves the EU without a deal. The scenario is that then the EU will sit back and watch the massive panic as hundreds of MPs riot to insist on a complete surrender to the EU, or, if not, there must be a second referendum that must stop the UK leaving the EU at 11pm on Friday, 29 March 2019.
EU fanatic, Labour’s misnamed Shadow Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, Sir Keir Starmer, is suggesting that up to 400 MPs could be mobilised to stop the UK leaving the EU without a deal, despite the fact that Labour said in its general election manifesto that it supports the referendum decision. He insists that these 400 will make sure that there is a second referendum, this time with the right result – that is that the UK remains under the feet of the bankers and bosses of the EU.
Other Labour right wingers suggested at September’s TUC Congress that the trade unions should take strike action against the UK leaving the EU. No doubt they will re-emerge shortly with their plan to sabotage the referendum with an insurgency. However, the truth about the essence of the EU is now emerging, and it will have an enormous impact on working class opinion, which already sees the EU is anti-working class to the core!
Bruno Le Maire, the French finance minister, has just told the German business newspaper Handelsblatt: ‘Either we get a eurozone budget or there will eventually be no euro at all.’ He added: ‘If there was a new financial and economic crisis tomorrow, the eurozone could not respond. It is really urgent that we build up the eurozone’s defences. We have been talking for too long.’
Le Maire said Europe’s leaders had failed to learn the lessons of the 2008 and the 2012 debt crises. They had not completed the banking union, or broken the ‘bank-sovereign doom loop’ with the full help from the bail-out fund (ESM).
Nor had they completed the capital markets union, or established a fiscal entity to bind EU economies closer together. ‘I am not being pessimistic, I am facing reality,’ he said. Le Maire said Europe must become a ‘form of empire, like China, and the US, willing to deploy its full economic, monetary, technological and cultural power on the world stage.’
No doubt embarrassed by his own words, he added: ‘I am talking about a peaceful empire, based on the rule of law. I use the term to sharpen awareness that we are going into a world where power matters. Europe should no longer shrink from deploying its power.’ He concluded: ‘To meet this challenge, there is no other possible way than an accord between France and Germany. All else is an illusion.’
The EU has ambitions to become a great imperialist power. That is why it crushed Greece, and is seeking to crush the UK rather than let the working class quit this imperialist conspiracy.
Meanwhile, Italy is in crisis. French bank exposure to the country is 12 per cent of France’s GDP – six times the Greek exposure in 2010. ‘The risk of contagion is huge. Italy is so big that it clearly represents a systemic threat to the whole euro area. The crucial problem is that the eurozone still has no lender of last resort,’ said Eric Dor from the IESEG business school in Lille.
The EU is a bankers conspiracy against the working class. The UK must leave it on 29th March 2019 and then move forward to socialism by nationalising the banks and the major industries under workers’ management. There is no doubt that this example will be followed by the workers of the entire EU – to dump the EU and go forward to the Socialist United States of Europe!
