Iran Is Not The Villain Of The ‘Nuclear Threat’

PRESIDENT Obama made it crystal clear in his 11.45pm Saturday night address, over the just-signed six-month interim nuclear agreement with Iran, that he is prepared to plunge the world into a major war to prevent Iran from developing an independent nuclear capacity.

This is despite the numerous declarations that have been made by Iranian leaders that they have not the slightest intention of acquiring nuclear weaponry.

Obama can live with Israel having hundreds of nuclear bombs, and with the rival Indian and Pakistani states also being nuclear armed, but he cannot tolerate Iran, that has never started a war in the Middle East but has been a victim of US-incited attacks, possessing an independent nuclear technology.

In fact, Israel’s stockpile of hundreds of nuclear bombs has been built up with the support of the imperialist powers, who have never demanded, on even a single occasion, that Israel contributes to a nuclear-free Middle East by destroying its weapons of mass destruction.

There have been no demands that Israel’s nuclear centres such as the Dimona centre, be put under continual mandatory international inspection.

There is every reason for believing that the US wants to police Iran’s nuclear technology because the US strategic goal in the Gulf is to obliterate the Islamic Republic of Iran on behalf of its Saudi, Qatari and Israeli allies, so that all of the region’s massive gas and oil wealth will fall into ‘friendly hands’.

As well, destroying Iran would allow the US and its allies to put Lebanon and Syria under their thumb, as well as being able to dictate terms to the Palestinians, with no chance of them being able to say ‘no’.

The US and the UK have track records of refusing to believe those who say that their country does not have wmds nor any intention of acquiring them.

They have ruthlessly attacked their leaderships, industries, and infrastructures, killing millions in the process.

This is what happened in Iraq, where after using Saddam to attack Iran, the US decided that he was getting too big for his boots when he occupied Kuwait.

It then attacked Iraq for over a decade with ruthless sanctions, before destroying it as a modern advanced state, with an overwhelmingly powerful onslaught, to which Iraq had no answer.

In Libya, under the rule of the nationalist Gadaffi, they persuaded him that they were sincere about making a ‘new turn’, got him to agree to give up his ‘weapons of mass destruction’, then mounted a NATO-supported rebellion that murdered Gadaffi and destroyed Libya as an advanced independent state.

As far as Iran is concerned, they have already mounted a savage attack with the most vicious imposition of sanctions that have gravely affected the Iranian economy.

At the same time, they have mounted a massive regime-change operation in Syria, Iran’s only real ally in the Middle East, and have announced on numerous occasions that they intend to rid Lebanon of the Hezbollah movement.

It is clear that once Iran’s guard is lowered and its nuclear industry is under lock and key it will be attacked and destroyed.

In his speech, Obama declared: ‘Since I took office, I’ve made clear my determination to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. As I’ve said many times, my strong preference is to resolve this issue peacefully, and we’ve extended the hand of diplomacy …

He added of the agreed measures: ‘These are substantial limitations which will help prevent Iran from building a nuclear weapon.

Simply put, they cut off Iran’s most likely paths to a bomb … On our side, the United States and our friends and allies have agreed to provide Iran with modest relief, while continuing to apply our toughest sanctions … And if Iran does not fully meet its commitments during this six-month phase, we will turn off the relief and ratchet up the pressure … Iran must accept strict limitations on its nuclear programme that make it impossible to develop a nuclear weapon.’

Iran is to be ruthlessly policed. It will no longer be a completely independent state, until the US is able to organise what it did in Iraq, Libya, and is attempting in Syria today, that is regime change.

Concluding his speech Obama declared: ‘As President and Commander-in-Chief, I will do what is necessary to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. But I have a profound responsibility to try to resolve our differences peacefully, rather than rush towards conflict.’

Disarming diplomacy is to go hand-in-hand with the preparation for military action to support alleged ‘democrats and reformists’ with regime change.

A Middle East free of wmds will only be achieved by the victory of the socialist revolution, including the Palestinian revolution, and the defeat of Zionism and imperialism throughout the region.

A world free of nuclear weapons will only be achieved by the victory of the world socialist revolution and the smashing of capitalism and imperialism in its main centres, in Europe and the USA.

There is no other way for humankind to go forward.

Now is the time to build sections of the International Committee of the Fourth International in every country to lead the world socialist revolution to its victory.
