THERE is not the slightest doubt that the Labour Party was absolutely correct to expel Alastair Campbell, Tony Blair’s former ‘spin doctor’, for voting for the Liberal Democrats in the recent European elections.
He got his just desserts after a career of peddling lies for Blair, including the WMD lies that Blair and he spread to ignite a deadly war with Iraq in 2003. This cost the lives of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, destroyed that country, and led to the rise of ISIS in the Middle East, including the carnage in Syria.
In fact, Campbell got off lightly. Now the spinners have got to work, and are trying to turn his treachery during the Euro elections with the ‘I am Spartacus’ slogan. They are using the name of the man who Marx called the ‘the most splendid fellow in the whole of ancient history … a noble character, real representative of the ancient proletariat …’ to try and cover up their dirty splitting tactics.
Spartacus was a hero. Spartacus was a liberator. They are seeking to defy the democratic decision of millions of people, in order to serve the interests of super-exploiting bankers and capitalists throughout Europe.
Former Home Secretary Charles Clarke has also confirmed he voted Lib Dem, along with ex-MP Fiona MacTaggart, while former Defence Secretary Bob Ainsworth said he voted Green. They should all be expelled at once.
Labour Deputy leader Watson who has been leading the agitation for a second referendum has called for an ‘amnesty.’
However, tolerance is in short supply. At the same time as Watson defended those who scabbed on Labour in the Euro elections, the campaign that Labour led by Corbyn is anti-semitic was stepped up by ‘The Equality and Human Rights Commission’ which has decided to launch a formal investigation into that absurd claim.
The truth is that Labour’s right wing is getting ready to split the Labour Party so that it can form a bloc with the Lib Dems, the SNP, and Tory Remainers to force through a second referendum and/or revoke Article 50, to remain in the EU, after ruling out a ‘No Deal’ exit on October 31.
They are to play a key role along with the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow, who has said he has no plans to stand down as Speaker of the House. He said he would remain in post while there were, what he described as ‘momentous events taking place in Parliament’.
Remainers know that the Speaker is ready to construct a parliamentary roadblock to a no-deal exit, and aid in either revoking article 50 or imposing a second referendum.
On Tuesday, he told the Guardian newspaper: ‘I do feel that now is a time in which momentous events are taking place and there are great issues to be resolved and in those circumstances, it doesn’t seem to me sensible to vacate the chair.’
The time has come for all those who support the decision to leave the EU, made by the 2016 referendum, to take action to prevent a parliamentary coup to destroy it.
First of all, all those Labour MPs who admit to having voted for the Lib Dems, or other parties, in the recent elections must be expelled from the party.
Then the party and the trade unions must take common action to prevent an anti-Brexit parliamentary coup. The 2016 referendum result was part of a political revolution to get the UK out of the EU.
It is now clear that it will only succeed if it becomes a social revolution of the working class. Workers must call their trade unions to order – they must bring down the Tory government with a general strike.
The trade unions must form workers’ councils to lead the fight to bring down the government and bring in a workers government that will leave the EU, and carry through a social revolution by nationalising the banks and the major industries, bringing in a planned socialist economy.
This socialist revolution will unite with the workers of Europe to bring down the EU of the bosses and bankers and replace it with the Socialist United States of Europe.
Only the WRP and the Young Socialists fight for this policy and perspective. Make sure you join us today to stop the Labour traitors destroying the British Socialist Revolution.
