I’M VOTING Arjinder Thiara, Workers Revolutionary Party for Ealing Southall,’ mental health nurse and Unison member Susan Griffiths said at Ealing Hospital yesterday morning.

‘What I want to know is why these building companies are being allowed to buy hospital land so cheaply to build on. They are not building affordable housing. These flats they are building on Ealing Hospital land are being sold at upwards of half-a-million pounds.

‘These fat cats are minting money out of hospital sites. I don’t understand how they are allowed to get away with it, it’s a licence to print money. The flats they are building on Ealing Hospital land should be handed over to the doctors, nurses and other hospital workers at low rent.’

Rosa Canonicato, nurse and Unison member coming off night shift, said: ‘They are closing this hospital but it must be stopped, and maternity, paediatrics and all other facilities must be reopened.’

Maureen, a nurse and Unison member coming off nights, said: ‘Our wages have gone down rather than up, and they are not just running down our pay, they are running down the NHS as a whole. The working class should rise up against it.’

Solicitor Trevor Watkins said: ‘The Vote Arj WRP for Ealing Southall campaign is doing fantastically well. We have found enormous support all over the constituency. The people are unsatisfied with the present MP and they want someone who will fight for them, fight for Ealing Hospital, Southall Jobcentre and against academisation and free schools.’

Candidate Arjinder Thiara said: ‘Wherever we go we are getting great support and we are stepping up our campaign in this last week. We started at 6.30 this morning at Southall train station, then joined the team at Ealing Hospital which started at 7am. We are visiting and speaking at Mosques and Gurdwaras this weekend and then on Monday evening at Featherstone High School it’s the final hustings meeting.

‘Meanwhile, the Young Socialists are holding a five-a-side football tournament at Southall Park on Sunday afternoon and we want all young people to come. Thousands of people have said they are going to vote for us, we hope they do and we are aiming to win. But whatever the outcome of the election we are stepping up our fight to save Ealing Hospital and to defend all jobs and services in Ealing Southall.’
