Defiant Visteon workers are still occupying three factories in Enfield, Basildon and Belfast.

Over 250 trade unionists and youth rallied in support of the workers occupying the factory in Enfield on Saturday.

The defiant Unite trade union convenor at the plant, Kevin Nolan, said he was prepared to go to jail rather than give in.

Nolan has been named on a court injunction got by receivers KPMG.

He thanked everyone for attending the rally.

He told them that the occupation was solid and that ‘we’re not going anywhere’.

Nolan said he is due to attend the High Court on Monday.

He added: ‘If they want to jail me, so be it.

‘At least I’ll have a more comfortable bed than I have at the moment.’

The Basildon factory Unite convenor, Frank Jepson, was present at the Enfield rally.

Bringing greetings, he told the rally that workers occupying all the plants were solid.

‘We’re here to stay until we win,’ he added. ‘There will be no giving in.’

One of the Enfield occupiers, former plant convenor, Ron Clark, also thanked everyone for turning out.

He told the rally that the company was shocked at the workers’ reaction to the instant sackings and broken redundancy promises.

He warned that things are going to get harder.

Hackney teacher Anna Gluckstein told the rally that she was pleased when she heard of the sit-in and raised a collection in her school.

She said that everybody gave something, adding that some of the school’s workers were on very low wages but everybody put in and she raised £250.

Speakers at the rally also included Unite Regional Secretary Steve Hart, Martin Gould of South East TUC, and ex-University and College Union member Sean Vernell, who gave £400 to the occupation.

Trade union banners at the rally included Unison London Fire Brigade branch, RMT Stratford, UCU City & Islington College.

Workers at the Visteon factory were sacked with no notice last Tuesday without details of any redundancy payments and no payment for two days work.

They are demanding their full Ford terms and conditions and redundancy as was agreed for life by Ford when it sold off Visteon.
