CELTIC FANS displayed Palestinian flags in a demonstration against Apartheid Israel last Wednesday night, 17th August, during the Celtic v Hapoel Be’er Sheva match.
Campaigners said: ‘This demonstration at Celtic on Wednesday 17 August 2016 could well be an historic moment in the campaign to compel FIFA to treat Apartheid Israel no more favourably than it treated Apartheid South Africa.
‘On 16th July 1976 it expelled Apartheid South Africa from FIFA by 78 Votes to 9 with only one delegate speaking against expulsion, Sir Harold Thompson. The vote heralded the beginning of the end of Apartheid in SA.
‘The pro-Zionist lobby are working furiously to prevent expulsion and have already succeeded in changing the rules (known as statutes) for expulsion, of members from FIFA, giving The Council (formerly known as The Executive) the powers to veto proposals to expel or even suspend members before reaching The Congress.
‘In other words removing the democratic right of Congress (the highest body of FIFA) to expel members, because like FAA they have done their sums and know that a vote at Congress will almost certainly mean the expulsion of Apartheid Israel from FIFA.
‘This demonstration at Celtic shows that momentum for the campaign for expulsion is growing. It has groups at 18 Premier League clubs in England and smaller groups in 6 other countries.
‘We must also campaign to reverse the FIFA Statute that allows a handful of FIFA officers such a veto over the democratic will of the world wide governing body of football. The peaceful expulsion of Apartheid Israel could happen as early as The FIFA Congress in Moscow in June 2018.’
