Obama attempts to con Irish workers

FOR the second time in two weeks Irish workers and youth have been subjected to a powerful imperialist propaganda assault designed to shore up the tottering Irish capitalist state and to strengthen US and UK imperialism.

Yesterday saw President Obama visit his supposed ‘ancestral home’ in Moneygall, County Offaly, where he was able to shake the hands of all 300 inhabitants, consume a pint of Guinness, greet his alleged eighth cousin, all for the cause of gaining the votes of some 40 million Irish Americans in the next presidential election.

In a country whose ruling class is completely discredited after it guaranteed that the working class would be responsible for all of the deposits and the debts of the Irish banks, he was welcomed as someone who at least might be able to help Ireland a little.

He was also welcomed by up to 100,000 mainly young people whom he spoke to at the College Green in Dublin.

He insulted their intelligence by bringing out of the cupboard his ‘yes we can’ routine that is now completely discredited in the US. He however enjoyed some support from the assembled masses who are completely hostile to the parties of the Irish ruling class, and desperate for some cause for optimism.

The truth is that Obama’s intervention in Ireland is steeped in imperialist cynicism. His advisers reckon that he has now won two pre-election victories.

One, he has murdered Osama bin Laden, and two, he has shown that he is popular somewhere, and now stands a chance of winning at least a part of the Irish American vote.

Obama hopes to clinch the run-in to the presidential election in London where he is to meet with Cameron, the Tory coalition leader. Near the top of their agenda will be the planning of the murder of Colonel Gadaffi.

Obama’s advisers reckon that with two killings to his credit, plus a political con job in Ireland, his rise from the near political dead to a genuine prospect for re-election will be assured.

Obama’s visit to Ireland came just days after Queen Elizabeth’s Irish expedition, where, with the Irish ruling class by her side, she put forward the position that Ireland would stand a better chance of survival under the umbrella of John Bull, especially since Ireland is on its way to defaulting over its EU debt.

However, the crisis of the Irish, UK and the US ruling classes and their economies is deepening.

The false dawns, encouraged by both Elizabeth Windsor and Obama, will lead to a revolutionary fury when Irish workers and youth see that both Obama and the British state supports all of the vicious attacks that are about to be intensified against them.

In fact, in the US the Obama regime is discredited especially as far as the working class is concerned.

He is seen to have sold them out with his ‘Yes we can’ slogans, and is rescuing big business and the banks from the crisis at the expense of the jobs, wages and pensions of tens of millions of workers.

Her majesty’s government is doing exactly the same in the UK.

The way forward for workers and youth in Ireland, the US and the UK is through building up the WRP in the UK and sections of the International Committee of the Fourth International in Ireland and the US, to lead theworking class in socialist revolutions to bring down the bourgeois regimes and bring in workers governments that will put an end to capitalism and imperialism and drive forward to socialism.
