Action needed now to establish Palestinian state and defeat Zionism

The Central Committee of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (Fatah) has held a meeting, chaired by Deputy Chairman Hussein al-Sheikh, to discuss Israel’s ongoing attacks against the Palestinian people amid its war on the Gaza Strip, as well as continued settler attacks, violence and displacement of Palestinians in the West Bank, including Jerusalem.

In a statement issued yesterday, the Central Committee said the current phase requires the highest levels of national and organisational responsibility, strengthening unity within Fatah and consolidating efforts and resources to confront the political and field challenges facing the Palestinian cause, in line with the higher national interest of the Palestinian people.

It also stressed the need to continue dialogue with Palestinian national forces and factions in a manner that strengthens national unity and serves the higher national interest.

The committee stressed the importance of continuing political and diplomatic efforts at all levels to halt Israel’s ongoing aggression against the Gaza Strip, stop Israeli violations and settler attacks in the West Bank, and confront policies of displacement, settlement expansion, and land seizure.

It affirmed that the Palestinian people will continue to stand firm and uphold their land and legitimate national rights. The struggle for the Palestinians to regain their land is decisive for people all over the world.

Imperialism grabbed Palestine in 1948, and set up its Israeli state in order to have a base in the oil rich Middle East. This was important to maintain ailing capitalism at the time.

The fact that the Zionist regime organised the most vicious and brutal campaign, to drive Palestinians off their land, is totally ignored by the ruling class today. In fact, it had every support from both the British and UK ruling classes for carrying out these massacres and pogroms.

Today, imperialism is in its biggest ever crisis, economically and politically. From the US to the UK, throughout Europe and beyond, these countries face mountains of growing debt with no hope these debts will ever be repaid, let alone be reduced.

This is why they are all fighting for survival.

The United States, far from making ‘America great again’ is fighting just to survive. It will not challenge Israel and its genocidal methods as it needs it as its base in the Middle East.

Trump is prepared to allow Netanyahu to break all his so-called peace agreements over Gaza and Iran because he needs the Netanyahu regime to stay in power for the American economy.

However, the constant attacks on living standards as a result of this crisis are driving millions of workers and youth to rise up all over the world.

Today, the oppressed masses feel a great affinity with the Palestinian masses and huge demonstrations have taken place in every country.

On top of this, there have been strikes and boycotts against Israel, and the continued unprecedented brutality by Israel has isolated it in the world.

That is why there is not just a growing demand to establish the Palestinian state, but also growing action to make it happen.

When the Israeli government announced it intends to carry out its decision to build a huge settlement that will divide the West Bank from Jerusalem, even the British Foreign Secretary has been forced to shout out that this must not happen and that Britain will take action against it.

Imperialism is at its weakest and most desperate today. There is no doubt that the working class of the world must seize the opportunity to bring it down.

Here in the UK, the TUC meets next month and must be forced to call a general strike to call a halt to Israel’s genocide.

Such action will win massive support throughout the world and bring down those governments that support Israel and instead establish the Palestinian state and workers’ states in many countries.

The world revolution is now rapidly emerging – let’s now go forward to its victory!
