US workers deliver stunning blow to Trump and the American ruling class

THE midterm elections on Tuesday dealt a crushing blow to president Trump and the Republican party with the Democrats winning a majority in the House of Representatives and the Senate, giving them control of the US Congress.

The size of the Democrat vote exceeded all the opinion polls predictions, with their candidates winning in previous Republican strongholds across the country.

Trump, uncharacteristically, congratulated the Democrats on their victory telling the New York Times he was ‘absolutely willing to accept those results.’

In an interview on Fox News, Trump acknowledged that the unprovoked US-Israeli war on Iran may have played a part in the overwhelming rejection of his policies by the US public.

He told Fox News: ‘I think a part of it was Iran, but at the same time people understood the importance of what I’ve done with Iran.’

The American people certainly understood what Trump was doing in Iran and they opposed it from day one.

Trump was elected two years ago on the promise of ending the US ‘forever wars’ and bringing jobs back to US workers.

What he gave them was a war in Iran that has rebounded into defeat for the mighty US armed forces, driven up the fuel prices to record levels, and massively accelerated the world crisis of capitalism.

His trade war on the rest of the world hasn’t resulted in any return of manufacturing industry and jobs to the US, but it has accelerated the inflationary cost of living spiral, forcing millions of US workers into poverty.

At the same time Trump unleashed his brutal ICE army of thugs onto the streets of cities across the US to terrorise and kidnap people, indiscriminately packing them off to prison camps without any juridical authority.

American workers and youth have had enough of Trump and his war on two fronts.

However the victory of the Democrats in taking control of the Senate, while a huge blow to Trump, does not mean the end of the drive by US imperialism to assert its domination over the world, in order to stave off economic collapse.

Trump made it clear following the elections that while he was prepared to ‘work’ with the Democrats he would still retain an absolute veto on any legislation that he did not approve.

As president, he also retains the absolute right to command the US military to wage war at his discretion.

Although severely weakened politically, Trump still has the authority to make good his previous pledge to resume the attacks on Iran, a decision he put off until after the midterm elections.

Commenting on the results of the elections, Iran’s parliamentary speaker, Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf, posted on X: ‘Conscience or the cost of living, Americans said “NO TO WAR”, and we endorse this message’.

He added ‘If the US government betrays the public will to serve international paymasters and blackmailers, it will learn our NO comes with a nightmare.’

Trump and the Republicans have been overwhelmingly rejected by a working class that is moving rapidly to the left of the Democrats, whose opposition to war has centred on the failure to achieve any victory.

Trump’s war drive against the world and the working class at home is driven by a financial crisis that is strangling the US economy under the weight of an unimaginable $40 trillion of debt.

The US working class will not sit back and allow Trump, with the tacit support of the Democrats, to stay in power while American capitalism crashes into bankruptcy, with no way out but to take the world down with it.

The time has come for the working class to force their trade union leaders, who have treacherously supported Trump in the past, to break with the Republican and Democratic parties and immediately mobilise mass strike action to bring down Trump.

These elections prove conclusively that American workers and youth have had enough of a bankrupt capitalist system.

The time is ripe for the American working class to dump Trump and US capitalism into the dustbin of history with the victory of the American socialist revolution!
