ISRAELI forces raided towns and villages across the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem overnight and yesterday.
In Biddu, northwest of Jerusalem, they seized a house, turned it into an interrogation centre and detained at least 53 young men there.
It was the third incursion into Biddu since Sunday, when an Israeli settler was killed in a shooting near the illegal Halamish settlement.
Israeli forces arrested Qadri Samara, a young man from the town, whom they accuse of the attack, while he was still being treated for gunshot wounds in a Ramallah hospital.
‘They have turned several homes into detention centres and are interrogating dozens of young men,’ Biddu Mayor Nazmi Mansour said.
‘The occupation forces have abused and assaulted a number of citizens during the ongoing raids and searches.’ Offices, shops and schools remain shut.
Troops set up checkpoints around Anata and Hizma and seized residents in al-Mughayyir, east of Ramallah.
They also raided homes and cars in the Jenin, Tubas, Qalqilya, Nablus, Bethlehem and al-Khalil governorates.
The United Nations humanitarian office recorded more than 1,330 settler attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank between January and late July. That is an average of six a day, the fastest pace in about 20 years.
At least 458 settlers stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque yesterday morning to mark Yom Kippur, touring its courtyards under police guard as police barred many Muslim worshippers. Israeli forces kept the Ibrahimi Mosque in al-Khalil closed to Muslims until 10.00pm and handed it to settlers.
It was the second closure in a week, and the call to prayer there has been banned for 90 days. In nearby Beit Ummar, settlers torched a vehicle, raided two homes and assaulted women and children. They also tried to abduct a child before residents drove them off.
In Gaza, Israeli forces killed at least four Palestinians yesterday. A boy was shot in the chest in al-Mawasi and a woman was shot in the head in Deir el-Balah.
A man died of gunshot wounds in Jabalia, and another was killed in a drone strike near al-Sikka in Khan Younis.
For a second day, no patients were evacuated through the Rafah or Karem Abu Salem crossings because of Israeli holidays.
The Health Ministry says Israel’s genocide has killed 73,914 Palestinians and wounded 174,952 since October 2023, including 1,394 killed since the October 2025 ceasefire.
Meanwhile, authorities have announced an emergency plan to evacuate and remove 255 cracked buildings at risk of collapse.
The Ministry of Public Works and Housing will lead the operation.
The plan follows last Wednesday’s collapse of the six-storey al-Saada building in Gaza City, which killed 21 and injured 45. The Government Media Office dismissed the Israeli army’s denial as an attempt to evade legal responsibility.
