GMB exposes venture capitalist

The GMB trade union yesterday launched a campaign outside Holy Trinity Church, Clapham Common, south London, to stop venture capitalists asset-stripping the AA.

The GMB turned up with a camel and a message for churchgoers that it is ‘easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than a rich man to enter heaven’.

Damon Buffini, the boss of Permira, who with CVC own the AA, is associated with this church and is estimated to be worth between £20/40 million.

The GMB says Buffini has presided over the sacking of 3,400 of the AA’s 10,000 workforce and alleges that disabled staff were targeted for the sack. The AA has increased prices to some motorists by 30 per cent while the service has been run down and profits doubled to £200m.

Churchgoers were invited to a campaign meeting this Tuesday evening at 6.30pm at the Bread and Roses Club, Manor Street, Clapham.
