THE British capitalist press is seeking to whip up a storm over what it calls two days of ‘hysterical violence’ by Assad forces in Eastern Ghouta, near to Damascus, and is warning of a ‘humanitarian catastrophe in the seven-year war’.
In fact, the capitalist media are ignoring the Turkish invasion of northern Syria that has seen Turkish tanks and planes kill over 500 civilians in just a few days. They have also ignored the reports that the Kurdish people of Afrin have invited the Syrian army to intervene to defend them against the Turkish army and that there have been mass demonstrations of support for President Assad in Afrin, in northern Syria.
They were looking the other way when the US armed militias in the north, in an attempt to smash the Syrian peace process by setting up a separate state. This mad plan has collapsed after leading to Turkish military intervention and an actual intensification of the war in Syria. Now the UK media are championing the terrorists in Eastern Ghouta, in the same way that they once championed the terrorists who once held Aleppo.
Eastern Ghouta is being held by the remnants of the ISIS and the al-Nusra Front, plus others who have refused to accept the Syrian peace process They are now actually mounting terrorist attacks on the nearby City of Damascus, and are being hailed as heroes and freedom fighters by the capitalist press.
In a letter of complaint to the United Nations, Syria has drawn attention to a sharp rise in deadly terror attacks against civilians in Damascus and its suburbs, calling on the world body to take proper measures against countries that support and fund the armed groups. The Syrian Foreign and Expatriates Ministry sent the letter to the UN chief and the Security Council chairman on Tuesday, hours after militant groups stationed in the Eastern Ghouta region targeted the capital and its countryside with lethal shells, killing and injuring dozens of people, the official SANA news agency reported.
The letter condemned the attack as ‘a continuation of the crimes committed on a daily basis by these terrorists against the citizens in Damascus’, saying they have fired more than 1,500 shells in the past seven weeks and left hundreds dead and wounded. The British capitalist press has noticed none of this!
The ministry further accused some Western officials of directly supporting the terrorists and encouraging them to carry out attacks without fear of being held accountable. ‘These officials are complicit in the terrorists’ crimes against innocent civilians in Damascus and its countryside, as they are denying the Syrian state’s right to defend its citizens, fight terrorism, and confront those who fund and arm terrorists.’ The terrorists have been slaughtering civilians over the past seven years ‘upon instructions from their masters’ in the capitals of Western and Persian Gulf states, the letter read.
Elsewhere in its letter, the Foreign Ministry demanded ‘an immediate and stern condemnation’ of the attacks by the UN, urging the Security Council to shoulder its responsibility and take action against the regimes that support and fund terrorism. ‘The terrorists and their supporters keep up using citizens in Eastern Ghouta and other regions as human shields,’ it added.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Monday said, ‘It took enormous effort to reach agreements on medical evacuation, first of all, of children and people needing emergency medical assistance. But subsequent efforts to organise large-scale evacuation of civilians from that area encountered Jabhat al-Nusra’s refusal as it seeks to keep these people as a human shield,’ Lavrov said. UK workers will not be taken in by the pro-al-Nusrah Front–ISIS propaganda of the British capitalist press.
Along with the people of Afrin, they will welcome the arrival of Syrian troops in the north and also the forthcoming liberation of the people of Eastern Ghouta who are currently being held as human shields by the remnants of the terrorist bands that still have the support of the UK government.
