IN YET another desperate rant against Iran, US president Donald Trump has threatened to ‘blow the entire nation up’.
Trump told Fox News on Saturday that he is ‘deciding’ on whether to escalate the war on Iran, saying: ‘My question is, if and when do I blow the entire nation up? They better behave,’ adding that ‘very big things’ will happen in the war – without elaborating on exactly what this would entail.
The ‘choices’ Trump said he was considering included ‘wiping them out, letting Iran rot economically, or making a deal.’
In the same interview, Trump said he is ‘open’ to meeting with Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian at the United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York this week.
Trump’s threats echoed ones he made earlier in April when he bombastically announced ‘a whole civilisation will die tonight, never to be brought back again.’
The signs that US imperialism is preparing for further escalation of the war on Iran was apparent when Trump cut short his normal weekend visit to the presidential retreat on Sunday and the US state department issued a new security alert to all US citizens in the Middle East.
The security alert on Saturday warned that ‘the security environment remains complex with potential for unforeseen escalation. American citizens in the Middle East should exercise heightened caution.’
Last week the US media site Axios revealed details of a secret meeting between top military commanders from the US, Israel, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan and Egypt.
The meeting, organised by Commander of US Central Command (CENTCOM) Admiral Brad Cooper, included Cooper reassuring those attending that the US military would not withdraw from the region despite the massive losses inflicted by Iranian attacks on US bases.
A source with knowledge of the proceedings told Axios that Saudi Arabia – with the assistance of CENTCOM – discussed how Israel could support the Saudis in their war against the Ansarallah Yemeni army which has inflicted a massive defeat over the Saudi-backed mercenary forces and seized control of the vital Red Sea ports, closing them to Saudi oil tankers.
The Iranian military are fully aware of the plans by a desperate Trump administration to once again attempt to rescue US imperialism from catastrophic defeat by launching a new wave of attacks with consequences for the Middle East and the entire world.
On Sunday, Iran issued a warning against any new offensive by the US and its allies and that any fresh attack would provoke sustained retaliation against US military installations and bases, adding that regional allies of the US would be regarded as parties to the conflict.
Yesterday, Iran issued a further explicit threat to the US and those Gulf states contemplating allying themselves with the imperialist aggressor.
In a statement, the Iranian military said Iran had ‘upended conventional calculations in the world’s military and strategic arena’ and imposed an ‘irreparable defeat’ on global powers and their allies without surrendering ‘even a single inch’ of Iranian territory.
The military defeat of the US has created chaos and economic crisis throughout the capitalist world, with Trump talking about deals while preparing to escalate a war already lost through conventional military means.
The upending of the imperialist boasts of policing the world and imposing its will through military strength places the whole world on the brink of a cataclysmic world war – which would include the possibility of becoming nuclear.
The working class has the power to put an end to capitalism and imperialist wars that threaten the future of humanity, by forcing the leaders of the trade unions to either end their subservience to their ruling class or be removed and replaced with a new leadership prepared to call general strikes to remove their capitalist governments and go forward to workers governments and socialism.
This requires the building up of the WRP and Young Socialists in the UK and sections of the International Committee of the Fourth International in every country to provide the leadership necessary for the victory of the world socialist revolution.
