RUSSIA says the UK shows no interest in conducting a joint investigation into the alleged assassination attempt on Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia, and the latest incident involving Charlie Rowley and Dawn Sturgess.
Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson for the Kremlin, said: ‘From the very beginning, the Russian side proposed conducting a joint investigation with the British side and this proposal remained without a response.’
The new victims, 45-year-old Charlie Rowley and his 44-year-old girlfriend Dawn Sturgess were discovered in Amesbury, some 7 miles north of Salisbury. What is odd, is that both scenes are located near to the government’s chemical and biological warfare research centre at Porton Down. Although the couple were hospitalised last Saturday, the news was only broken on Wednesday, some five days later. Five days to work out that this was not a case of a drug addict going over the top, but was actually ‘linked to the Skripal poisoning’.
Tory Home Secretary Sajid Javid’s ‘working theory’ is that the latest exposure was accidental, which begs the question: how could that be possible after four months and a massive clean-up operation? However, what we do know, and it is firmly on the record, is that Porton Down has, in the past, tested biological and chemical weapons on the local population.
The British Government subjected thousands of people to chemical and biological warfare trials during the Cold War. It has come to light that in the 1950s and 1960s more than 750 secret operations were carried out. Hundreds of thousands of ordinary citizens were unwillingly and unknowingly subjected to ‘mock’ biological and chemical warfare attacks launched from aircraft, ships and road vehicles.
Research, carried out by Ulf Schmidt, Professor of Modern History at the University of Kent, has revealed that British military aircraft dropped thousands of kilos of a chemical of ‘largely unknown toxic potential’ on British civilian populations in and around Salisbury in Wiltshire, Cardington in Bedfordshire and Norwich in Norfolk.
The research reveals, for the first time, that around 4,600 kilos of the chemical, zinc cadmium sulphide (ZCS) were dispersed from ships, aircraft and moving lorries between 1953 and 1964. ZCS is now known to be potentially carcinogenic (cancerous), on account of its cadmium content. This inorganic compound was used by Cold War scientists in the UK and the US as a supposedly harmless proxy to simulate the behaviour, in the lower atmosphere and on the ground, of biological warfare substances. However it is still not known whether particles of ZCS that may have become embedded in people’s lungs for decades could ultimately cause disease.
Professor Schmidt’s book, Secret Science – has revealed that commuters on the London underground were also used as guinea pigs on a substantially larger scale than previously thought. A biological warfare field trial was carried out in the capital’s tube system in May 1964. The secret operation – carried out by scientists from Porton Down, involved the release of large quantities of bacteria called Bacillus globigii. This is all well documented.
The Tory government has now launched itself into a new anti-Russian Cold War. One of the things that a joint Russian-UK Inquiry could uncover is whether Porton Down is continuing with its old tricks and experiments.
The sight of Russia putting on an enormously successful World Cup with British soccer fans being embraced as brothers and sisters could not have gone down too well with the Cold War warriors. Tory Home Secretary, Sajid Javid, in a statement to parliament on the latest incident, said: ‘It is now time that the Russian state comes forward and explains exactly what has gone on.’ Labour’s Shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott shamefully backed him up all the way. Labour should have demanded that the government take up Russia’s offer of a joint inquiry. The trades unions must immediately demand that the UK sets up a joint inquiry with Russia over the Salsbury poisonings and that it continues until the truth is uncovered!
