HAMAS and Hezbollah marked the third anniversary of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood yesterday, calling the 7 October 2023 operation a historic turning point in the Palestinian struggle whose consequences are still reshaping the region.
Hamas described it as a ‘historic and proud milestone’ in the Palestinian people’s struggle and ‘a major national epic and a legitimate act of resistance’.
Hezbollah said the operation had restored attention to the Palestinian cause after years of attempts to sideline it through political compromise and normalisation.
‘Those who understand the justifications and motives behind the Flood ultimately conclude, through a series of arguments and evidence, that the Flood was a courageous, qualitative, natural, justified, and legitimate act of resistance,’ it said.
Three years of war had failed to give Israel and its allies a decisive outcome, the Lebanese movement said, and had not eliminated Hamas, the other resistance factions or the people of Gaza.
It said the operation ‘revealed the greatness of the Palestinian people, the strength of their will, and the steadfastness of their resilience in confronting the Israeli killing machine’.
On Tuesday, Islamic Jihad secretary-general Ziyad al-Nakhala, speaking on the movement’s 39th anniversary, said Palestinians would continue to resist the occupation by all available means.
‘2026 stands as a year of steadfastness and resilience against the Zio-American aggression and the attempts to eliminate the Palestinian cause,’ he said.
Al-Nakhala said Al-Aqsa Flood was a response to Israel’s siege of Gaza, its violations at Al-Aqsa Mosque, detentions, annexation and settlement expansion.
