RUSSIA has threatened to strike British military targets both inside and outside the Ukraine after British missiles were used to attack Russian territory.
Maria Zakharova, the chief spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, told a Moscow briefing on Thursday that: ‘The response to Ukrainian strikes using British missiles on Russian territory may become attacks on any military sites and equipment of Britain in Ukraine, or beyond its borders.’
Zakharova accused London of bearing direct responsibility for ‘terror attacks’ on Russian soil and warned that those found ‘guilty of war crimes’ against Russian civilians would be punished commensurate to their deeds.’
She added yesterday that: ‘It is clear that by handing over such assembly functions to the Ukrainians, London and Paris are feverishly attempting to absolve themselves of responsibility for strikes deep into our country.’
She warned Britain against taking what she called an increasingly aggressive stance against Russia, saying that the provision of missile technology to the Ukraine was a reckless escalation.
She concluded: ‘Those in the West who make and carry out these decisions must know that they are playing with fire.
‘The consequences may be completely unpredictable, including for themselves.’
Driving the European and UK governments is their own economic crisis.
The US’ refusal to pour money into Ukraine to fight Russia has forced these capitalist powers to take the lead in battling for Ukraine.
Originally, it was the UK, EU and the United States that forced the counter-revolution on Ukraine with their ‘Orange Revolution’ in 2004 and organised a ‘regime change’.
The plan was to establish NATO in Ukraine, and close the borders of Russia in order to make it easier to attack it.
These imperialist powers organised to overthrow the existing elected President Yanukovych and with the support of pro-fascist forces, militarily forced a break between Ukraine and Russia.
However, Russia fought back and has made it impossible for NATO to establish its forces in Ukraine and is battling to re-establish the country as once more in line with Russia.
Workers in the UK and internationally must defend the gains of the Russian Revolution and the nationalised property relationships of the Soviet Union.
Ukraine must be defended as part of this relationship and not be allowed to be smashed up by these capitalist powers and become a base for NATO.
Workers will not stand idly by and watch the imperialist powers organise a Third World War to smash Russia and China and drive back the working class of the world.
Now is the time for the UK trade unions to demand a Special Congress of the TUC to organise a massive general strike action to bring down the current Labour government, that is acting as a tool of the bosses, and replace it with a Workers Government and socialism.
In fact, the working class in the US, the EU and throughout Asia must give full support to the struggle of the Russian and Chinese workers by calling general strikes to bring down the US, UK and EU regimes and go forward to Workers Republics and a worldwide planned socialist economy.
Backward capitalism has more than had its day and is now consumed by plots to try to restore the old order and to destroy the gains of the working class, whether it is the UK welfare state or the enormous gains of the Russian and Chinese revolutions.
Now is the time to build sections of the International Committee of the Fourth International to organise and lead the struggle to smash capitalism internationally and to establish the World Socialist Republic.
Capitalism has reached the end of its road. Bury it without delay and go forward to the World Socialist Republic. There is not a moment to lose!
