PREMIER BROWN told his monthly news briefing yesterday of the war that he is waging on the country’s youth and the 110,000 ‘problem families’ who are to be ‘targeted’ and whom, he asserted, are rearing ‘disruptive youngsters’.
The problem families would be given parenting support, a parenting contract and supervision. If they fail to change, the good Christian leader will evict them and no doubt have their children taken into care.
This grand strategy goes under the name of ‘prevention, enforcement and punishment’.
For the youth, the vigilante in 10 Downing Street is riding high, delivering revenge and declaring that it is payback time in the form of ‘Community payback’.
The council estates are to be flooded with police stopping and searchng youth, there are to be undercover police informing on the youth, and metal detectors everywhere to reveal the knife carriers.
These would be arrested and face a ‘presumption of prison or tough community payback’ that is, up to 300 hours concentrated work in the community.
They would be cleaning streets on Friday and Saturday nights when everybody else is out doing their best to avoid being repeatedly stopped and searched.
Brown stressed that councils had the power to impose a curfew on youth for up to 90 days while the police could clear the streets of youth by issuing dispersal orders.
The government’s measures are to be overseen by Alfred Hitchcock who is deputy assistant commissioner for Scotland Yard. Another serving policeman doubling as an unelected politician!
Yesterday he was pushing for a non-military version of National Service which could include ‘helping vulnerable people and volunteering overseas’.
He said most young people were not ‘beyond the pale’ but had been ‘let down’ and it was now time to give them the ‘hope they deserve’.
Hitchcock added: ‘It would give them a sense of responsibility and achievement – and some discipline.
‘It should not be seen as a punishment or a pressurised duty, like conscription, but as an opportunity to go forward into a successful adulthood.’
Presumably, this non-military National Service will be reserved for working class youth, with the middle class and upper class youth getting on with their lives.
However, although this conscription is non-military, there is little doubt that with the army looking for masses of cannon fodder, the real aim of this scheme is to try to give youth a bit of adventure and discipline before convincing them that a life of adventure as a paid killer in the British Army is the answer to all of their probems. It is to be conscription by the back door!
There is little doubt that a society that has completely lost the respect of its youth and can offer them no worthwhile future, and sees them as the number one enemy to be beaten, bashed and bludgeoned into submission, such a society deserves to perish.
After 11 years of Labour governments we have a society where the chasm between the rich and the poor is widening at an ever-increasing rate, where money is the only god, and everything has its price.
It is a rotten, corrupt and backward society that youth hate and are in revolt against in the only ways open to them.
But it is not only youth who are being treated as irredeemable criminals.
The working class is being treated in the same way – as a force to be repressed and kept in chains by large numbers of anti-union laws.
Yesterday Brown was asked that since he needed the money of the trade unions, was he going to bring in policies that were friendlier to them.
His reply was to lash the trade unions saying that he had already told the trade union leaders that there will be no return to the 1970s, all the anti-union laws will remain, including the laws against secondary action, and that the trade unions will never be in a position where they write the laws governing trade unions. He intends to proceed with the ‘flexible’ economy that the bosses love.
There is clearly only one way forward for the millions of youth and workers. This is to overthrow bankrupt capitalism with a socialist revolution and put capitalism where it belongs, into a museum of backward societies, while humanity proceeds to build a socialist society, with youth leading the way.
