ON MONDAY evening, Labour Party leader Miliband completely betrayed the interests of the working class, the youth and the majority of the middle class when he rescued the Tory Party from ignominious defeat at the hands of its discontented rebels, a defeat that could have brought the coalition down – or at least greatly hastened its bringing down.
Now Labour is to be the partner of the pro-Cameron Tories to push the same-sex marriage legislation through both houses of parliament.
This partnership is nothing less than a rehearsal for the formation of a national government.
When the world crisis further deteriorates, and the discontent of the masses reaches boiling point, the partnership will become permanent. Then Miliband, Balls, and whoever constitutes the Tory leadership will form a national government to force through all of the savage measures that they have worked out to save the banks and the businesses of the ruling class, by trampling the interests of the working class and the middle class into the dust.
Miliband’s conduct on Monday night, as well as being a declaration of intent, was a huge slap in the face for the masses of people who are really suffering under this coalition.
Millions are seeing their benefits being cut, with people being evicted and families going hungry, while the disabled are being crucified. Hundreds of thousands have had the Bedroom Tax imposed on them, and have also had their jobs destroyed. Now the masses are seething with anger at seeing the NHS, the Welfare State and the Royal Mail being slashed to pieces and facing privatisation.
Rather than stand with them and act in a way to bring down the government, Miliband saved Cameron and slapped the masses in the face.
He knows that the savage Tory cuts are causing massive suffering and deaths.
One of the deaths was that of grandmother Stephanie Bottrill who, because of the Bedroom Tax, had to pay an extra £20 a week.
She threw herself in front of a motorway lorry after leaving a note blaming the Cameron-led coalition government and its Bedroom Tax policy for her decision to end her life.
Stephanie Bottrill left notes to her loved ones. She wrote in her letter to her son Steven, ‘Don’t blame yourself for me ending my life. The only people to blame are the Government.’ Days before, she had told her neighbours, ‘I can’t afford to live any more.’
She was very clear who the enemy was, and who was responsible.
The Tory-led coalition is creating a situation where there will be many, many thousands of Stephanie Bottrills who can no longer afford to live, but will rise up to fight those who are responsible.
In rescuing the Cameron regime Miliband has made it perfectly clear that he has totally turned his back on the tens of millions who can no longer afford to live, and stands with the super-rich, the bosses and bankers.
The masses know that no one section can get a better life under the Tories, especially in a situation of a massive capitalist crisis. The majority of those who favour single sex marriages know that they will never have a life under capitalism. Their interests and the interests of the mass of the working class and the youth are the same. There is no future for a single worker or youth under crisis-ridden capitalism. It and its coalition government must be got rid of!
The working class will respond to Miliband’s treachery by stepping up the struggle for mass occupations of hospitals, fire stations and all publicly owned facilities to prevent them from being closed and/or privatised.
Workers will also step up the struggle for a general strike to bring down the coalition and go forward to a workers government and socialism.
Central to this struggle is the building of the WRP into the leadership of the vast majority of the working class in the UK to organise and lead the British socialist revolution.
