THE US Secretary of State John Kerry has warned Russia that it must not recognise the elections that are due to take place this Sunday in the ‘People’s Republics’ that have been established in Eastern Ukraine, or their outcome.
Kerry says that Russia will be breaking international agreements if it recognises the elections in Donetsk and Lugansk, implying that more sanctions are on the way.
The Ukrainian coupist President, Petro Poroshenko argues that the polls in the East threaten the peace process with Kiev, while his supporters and the fascist bands that stood candidates in the October 28 ‘elections’ in West Ukraine, and will be in the new parliament, are demanding that with their ‘election’ over the military action to crush the workers of the east must be restarted next week with heavier weaponry.
In fact, Kerry’s demands that Russia leaves the workers of the East to their fate, come directly out of President Putin’s recognition of the Kiev elections, and the government coalition regime that is about to be formed.
Putin’s recognition of the new Kiev parliament and government is part and parcel of the Stalinist bureaucracy’s search for a deal with the imperialist powers, in which Russia’s interests will be respected and catered for – they hope.
His recognition of the Kiev election was a big mistake of Stalinist politics, since the election itself was the product of an illegal coup d’etat that overthrew the legally elected President Yanukuvych, through the action of fascist bands.
The finances and the forces for carrying out the coup were mustered and paid for by US and EU imperialism. It was a planned operation!
The imperialists organised and supported the coup, and then supported the bloody onslaught on the east of the Ukraine and finally, the passing of the Purification Law in the Kiev parliament. This ensured that the Communist Party and the Party of the Regions, a bloc that won elections and formed governments in the Ukraine, were kept off the ballot papers.
The election was prepared for in a pogrom atmosphere with opposition politicians being beaten and dumped in rubbish tips.
Despite this pogrom atmosphere, 10% voted for the ‘opposition forces’ while the turn out was just over 50%, with millions of voters in the East refusing to take part in the electoral fraud.
The US, the UK and the EU now have the regime that they want, and it will reopen the war with the East as soon as the US gives the word and has provided the arms, ammunition and cash to do so.
Their arrogant demand that Putin refuses to recognise the Eastern republican polls comes from their realisation that Putin has no strategy for the situation, only a tactic of seeking the best possible deal for Russia in the circumstances that prevail.
So they are now seeing whether they can get him to dump the workers in the east, an action that could well prepare the way for his removal, by the right wing of the bureaucracy and their Oligarchs inside Russia itself. The essence of the Kiev coup is that it is the first big battle in the war to overthrow all of the gains of the Russian revolution, by regime change in Russia itself.
The Stalinist bureaucracy despite the enormous world crisis of imperialism is divorced from the working class of the world and is reduced to a defensive operation of seeking the best deal that they can for Russia.
The truth of the matter is that Russia can only be defended against the imperialist onslaught by the strategy of organising the world revolution which was the strategy that was used by Lenin and Trotsky to prepare the 1917 revolution, to found the USSR and to defend it.
Today imperialism is gripped by its gravest crisis ever. Revolution is erupting everywhere and everywhere imperialism is facing the gravest difficulties.
The way to defend Russia and China is through building the Fourth International in every country to smash capitalism and imperialism to bring in world socialism.
As part of this struggle the Russian workers must insist that the Ukraine will not be surrendered to imperialism, and that with the renewal of the war in the East, the Red Army marches on Kiev and re-establishes Soviet Ukraine.
