The occupying Sri Lanka military governor in Jaffna, Major General Chandrasri now schemes to bring more than 1000 nursery schools functioning in Jaffna under the control of genocidal Colombo, TamilNet reports.
As a preliminary step, the governor wants to ‘aid’ and affiliate the schools to the military-controlled administration of the Northern Provincial Council.
Amidst controversies, a meeting for pre-school teachers was convened last Saturday at Veerasingham Hall in Jaffna.
SL Presidential sibling Basil Rajapaksa attending the meeting announced payment of salaries to pre-school teachers and eventual absorption of them into ‘government’ service.
While the deeper intention of the agenda was eyeing on tender children of Eezham Tamils, the presidential sibling also chose the occasion to attack the TNA campaign for the civic elections scheduled this month.
The nursery schools for children between three and five years old are at present run privately, mostly by unemployed young women or by grass root socio-cultural institutions.
Last year, genocidal Sri Lanka wanted the school children of Jaffna to sing the so-called national anthem of Sri Lanka in Sinhalese.
During the colonial rule of the British when the native revival movements started free educational institutions of a different genre, the colonial administrators employed the same technique of ‘aid’ to control them.
The danger today is not only a genocidal state controlling educational institutions of Eezham Tamils from university to kindergartens now, but also larger international forces ‘aiding’ the genocidal state deciding behind the scene what is education, an academic in Jaffna said.
The debate on how to bring up children of a nation and how to educate them has to be left to the parents of that nation.
Snatching away the children of a subjugated nation at a tender age to alienate them from their local genius and to introduce them to a genocide-intended curriculum or corporate-friendly curriculum in the name of ‘development’ has to be resisted to the core by the nation of Eezham Tamils, the Jaffna academic further said.
Meanwhile, the act of SL colonial governor in Jaffna initiating the Northern Provincial Council to take control of the kindergartens, even before an elected provincial council come into effect to debate and decide on such a move, only shows that either Colombo has decided on continuing military rule or it is sure of manipulating and capturing the council, if at all the elections ever take place, a politician in Jaffna said.
Meanwhile, addressing the meeting for the pre-school teachers on Saturday, Basil Rajapaksa said that the aim of SL president Mahinda Rajapaksa is to make Sri Lanka a leading developed country in entire Asia.
Because of the war two generations in the north lost everything and now they should get everything, he said.
Attacking the Tamil National Alliance (TNA), he said that it has not done anything for Tamils, but is always keen on finding fault with the SL government.
By collaborating with the SL government, minister Douglas Devananda is doing a lot of things and TNA tries to claim the credit, he accused.
Douglas Devananda and another SL minister Hisbullah were present at the meeting along with Basil Rajapaksa.
The civic elections for town and village councils are scheduled to take place on 23 July.
In other news, IDPs (internally displaced persons) from Vadamaraadchi East (a former LTTE controlled region) affected by the war who were staying in the Raamaavil camp near Kodikaamam for more than two years were all of a sudden ordered to vacate the camp immediately by Saturday midnight.
They were then herded by the occupying SL Army into military vehicles, after it told them that they would be ‘resettled’ in their villages in Vadamaraadchi East.
They are at present staying in a school building in Vadamaraadchi East, without any food or facilities.
They were ordered to go to their abandoned and dilapidated houses within three days and ‘live’ there.
The reason for the overnight operation executed in an inhuman way was that the visiting presidential sibling Basil Rajapaksa wanted to make a show of enacting ‘resettlement’, local officials in Jaffna said.
The occupying Army closed the Raamaavil camp by 1am Sunday.
The IDPs of the camp are to be resettled in the villages Poakka’ruppu, Kaddaikkaadu, Veththilaikkea’ni and Keavil in Vadamaraadchi East.
The SL Army that came to the camp by 8 PM on Saturday told them first to be prepared to leave on Sunday morning.
But the Army again came by midnight, ordered the people to vacate immediately and forcefully herded them into the military vehicles.
They were taken to the school at Keavil and were left there without any food or facilities.
They were then hurriedly herded to a ‘resettlement’ meeting addressed by Basil Rajapaksa who came in the company of SL colonial governor for the North, Maj. Gen. Chandrasri and SL minister Douglas Devananda.
The meeting took place by mid noon on Sunday in a shed made for the occasion at Veththilaikkea’ni.
People who attended the meeting, without even food given to them, felt that they were treated like non-human showpieces for the occasion.
The children suffering from hunger were seen very tired.
The villages of the camp inmates were severely afflicted in the war and most of the people see just traces of their houses there.
But they are now ordered to go and live there within three days.
Meanwhile, in another Basil Rajapaksa-show on Saturday, equipments already donated to schools were taken back to re-donate them through the hands of Basil Rajapaksa.
Sometime back, the SL military-controlled administration of Northern Provincial Council had donated pianos and computers to schools in Jaffna.
They were hurriedly taken back and were brought to Veampadi Girls College to re-donate them to the principals of schools through Basil in a function organised by the Northern Provincial Council on Saturday.
On the same day, a large number of private nursery school teachers were brought to Veerasingham Hall in Jaffna with promises of an SL government job and salary, to attend to a meeting addressed by Basil Rajapaksa.
Basil Rajapaksa’s exercises are aimed at the civic elections for town and village councils scheduled in the north on July 23 and he engages in an unfair campaign, while the TNA is prevented from campaigning after a brutal attack on its meeting by the occupying SL Army, political observers in Jaffna said.
