Panic-stricken Trump lifts embargo on Russian oil and dumps Zelensky

US PRESIDENT Donald Trump announced on Friday that he had agreed a deal with Russian president Vladimir Putin for Russia to supply hundreds of thousands of tons of diesel fuel to the US and world markets.

Trump announced his decision saying: ‘Russia will immediately supply over 300,000 tons of diesel fuel to the American and Global Marketplace, another 500,000 tons during the month of November and 1,000,000 tons immediately thereafter.’

The US treasury department confirmed that it had granted Russia a temporary general licence to export diesel to the global market.

This shock news came just three weeks after Trump signed legislations that authorised a new round of American sanctions and tariffs on any country importing Russian gas and oil.

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky was outraged by Trump’s abrupt decision with UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham and the other nations in Europe, who give the fascist-supported Zelensky regime their full support, weighing in to attack Trump.

It came just before a meeting today of EU foreign ministers intended to approve the biggest set of sanctions against Russia so far.

Trump responded on Saturday by calling for Zelensky’s removal from office saying Ukraine needs ‘a new leader’ and that Zelensky had not done enough to end the war with Russia.

Trump went on to blame Zelensky for the price of diesel in the US, which has rocketed due to the unprovoked war launched by the US and its Israeli ally against Iran.

In the seven months since the US-Israeli attack on Iran leading to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, the price of energy, fuel and consumer goods have shot up across the US.

While Trump has repeatedly predicted the war would soon be over, with victory to the US ensuring that prices would quickly fall, the American working class remains opposed to the war and has turned on the Trump administration and the Republican party.

With the cost of fuel driving the cost-of-living crisis and the impact of diesel prices impacting on farmers in the American agricultural states who rely heavily on diesel, Trump is facing a crisis in the run-up to November’s mid-term elections.

Apart from seeking a deal with Putin, Trump has announced a temporary stop to the missile and bombing attacks on Iran until after the elections are over – another attempt to hold the price of oil down temporarily and a stark admission by Trump of the cost to the US of its failed war against Iran.

Now, Trump in desperation has turned to Russia to provide what amounts to a tiny amount of oil to the US, which uses approximately 3.6 million barrels of diesel a day, and in the process has dumped  Zelensky along with Burnham and the other EU leaders.

Burnham was immediately on the phone to Zelensky to reiterate his ‘complete solidarity’ with him and to arrange to meet in person in the coming days to discuss keeping up pressure on Russia.

With Trump trying to pull out of the war in an attempt to save his own political skin, it leaves Burnham and the other EU leaders to continue the war provoked by NATO in order to weaken Russia.

Or rather – make the working class in the UK and Europe pay the cost of the billions spent on a lost war.

The working class across the US, UK and Europe have  shown their determination not to be driven into the gutter of poverty by a capitalist system that in its historic crisis is driven to wars, in an attempt to reorder the world for exploitation by the capitalist class.

The time has come for the working class of the world to rise up and overthrow their own ruling classes and bring an end to all these imperialist wars.

The immediate task is to force the leaders of the trade unions to call mass strike action to bring down their capitalist governments and go forward to workers governments and socialism.

This is the only way to stop capitalist wars.
