Cameron & Obama threaten Russia and support Israel’s attack on Gaza

CAMERON was in threatening mode on Monday in his statement to the House of Commons.

He said that President Putin must use his influence to end the conflict in Ukraine, following the shooting down of the Malaysian Airlines passenger plane which killed all on board.

He told the House of Commons on July 21: ‘In the last few days I have spoken with Presidents Obama and Hollande, Chancellor Merkel, and the Prime Ministers of the Netherlands, Malaysia, Poland and Australia. We are all agreed on what must happen.’

This is that ‘President Putin must use his influence to end the conflict in Ukraine by halting supplies and training for the separatists.’

He added: ‘The context for this tragedy is Russia’s attempt to destabilise a sovereign state, violate its territorial integrity and arm and train thuggish militias.’

Cameron continued: ‘I hope that he will use this moment to find a path out of this festering and dangerous crisis by ending Russia’s support for the separatists.

‘But if he does not change his approach to Ukraine in this way then Europe and the West must fundamentally change our approach to Russia.’

The UK, acting for the US, was yesterday pushing for increased sanctions against Russia at a meeting of EU foreign ministers.

Cameron said he felt it was time for ‘Tier 3’ sanctions on wider sectors of the Russian economy. In this he was supported by Labour’s deputy leader Harriet Harman – who said it was time for ‘a strong and determined EU to step up its responsibilities and confront the Russian actions’.

Having ‘dealt’ with Russia, Cameron continued to support the right of Israel to murder Palestinians and maintain its 47 year occupation of Palestine.

He said: ‘This crisis was triggered by Hamas raining hundreds of rockets on Israeli cities, indiscriminately targeting civilians in contravention of all humanitarian law and norms.

Cameron added: ‘I have been clear throughout this crisis that Israel has the right to defend itself.

‘Those criticising Israel’s response must ask themselves how they would expect their own government to react if hundreds of rockets were raining down on British cities today.’

In a thoroughly British ruling class way, he married his donning of the ‘butchers apron’ to shedding a tear for all of the dead Palestinians, saying: ‘But I share the grave concern of many in the international community about the heavy toll of civilian casualties.

‘The figures are very disturbing. Over 500 have now reportedly been killed in Gaza, and over 3,000 injured. The UN estimates that over 83,000 have been displaced so far.’

He was clearly very disturbed that ‘Israel has also faced loss of life, with 18 soldiers and 2 civilians killed, including 13 soldiers yesterday alone.’

He was not disturbed enough to demand an immediate ceasefire, to save the lives of many Palestinian children who continue to be slaughtered, and the withdrawal of all Israeli troops from Gaza and the ending of the occupation.

In fact he said: ‘I repeated our recognition of Israel’s right to take proportionate action to defend itself, and our condemnation of Hamas’ refusal to end their rocket attacks, despite all international efforts to broker a ceasefire.’

In fact everybody knows that the vicious attack on Gaza is imperialism’s response to the decision to form a Hamas-Fatah Palestinian unity government.

Also, every worker also knows that the armed struggle of the workers of eastern Ukraine is their just response to a US-UK-EU organised coup, led by fascist gangs, that placed a right-wing regime in power in Kiev, that has been prosecuting a dirty war against the workers of the east, as part of the western powers effort to create the conditions for overthrowing the Putin regime in Russia.

In fact, the murderous foreign policy of Cameron is an extension of his home policy of making the working class pay for the bankers crisis by ending benefits, privatising the NHS, imposing low wages, and also imposing in the period ahead a massive increase in productivity, illegalising the right to strike in order to achieve it.

The capitalist system is in its greatest world crisis ever. The only solution is for the workers of the world to unite through the building of sections of the Fourth International in every country to lead the world socialist revolution to its victory by smashing capitalism and imperialism.
