‘I AM voting for Jonty Leff because I am angry about the lack of jobs for young people and the amount that they are paid at work when they do get a job,’ Umaro Da Silva said during the ‘Vote WRP, vote Jonty Leff’ campaign outside Hackney Community College yesterday lunchtime.

Da Silva continued: ‘I joined the Young Socialists when I was 16 and have known Jonty for three years. Now that I am old enough to vote I am voting for revolution because I believe that it is really unfair that under 18-year-olds are being paid less than over 18-year-olds to do the same job. Why do they get paid less when they are doing exactly the same amount of work and working as hard?’

Toni Newane, studying at Hackney College, said: ‘I stand for the working class. The rich represent a tiny minority of the population. We run this country, we are this country, when we all go out on strike the rich will be irrelevant, they are nothing without us. I am from a working class family and I believe in making it better for us so that my mum does not have to struggle for the rest of her life. That is why I am for revolution.’

Student Toiyibat Kuti said: ‘I support the campaign to get Jonty Leff elected because I am going on to study accountancy and finance at university, and working class students are being discouraged from furthering their studies because university is becoming more and more like a business.’

Fellow Hackney College student Joseph Unadike added: ‘I am going to vote Workers Revolutionary Party. The Tories want to minimise the amount of working class students that go on to university. They are getting pushed out of university and this means that they will have less chance of getting the higher paid jobs.’
