Pirapaharan Pays Tribute To Tna Mp Sivanesan

TAMILNET reports that the leader of the Liberation Tigers, Velupillai Pirapaharan, on Saturday, paid tribute to the slain Jaffna District Tamil National Alliance MP Kiddinan Sivanesan in the Vanni.

LTTE’s Intelligence Wing Chief Poddu Ammaan, Political Head B Nadesan and the Head of Financial Division Thamizheanthi were also present with the LTTE leader to pay homage to the slain MP at an undisclosed location in Vanni.

‘Signs of desperation are evident in Sri Lanka’s defence hierarchy as the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) divisions stay bogged down within a few square kilometres in Mannaar, unable to advance for nearly a year.

B Nadesan, head of political section of the Liberation Tigers, said, ‘While SLA commanders are on foreign jaunts to build hurried military alliances, Colombo has also suffered politically with its racist policies in governance exposed internationally, and has earned opprobrium from the international community for the escalating human rights violations.’

Nadesan was addressing the event held in Ki’linochchi to pay last respects to the slain parliamentarian, K Sivanesan, on Saturday.

The SLA is facing a similar predicament in Vavuniyaa, Ma’nalaa’ru, and the Northern Front theatres of battle, Nadesan added.

Remembering Sivanesan’s longstanding contribution to eradicating poverty in the war-stricken sections of the Tamil people through co-operative efforts, Nadesan said that Sivanesan MP lived with the people.

‘When people were displaced, he was also displaced; when civilians were getting bombed by the Sri Lankan military, he was there to help them.

‘Sivanesan MP believed in empowering people through the cooperative structures at the grassroots.

‘He believed wholeheartedly in the liberation of the Tamil homeland. Sivanesan MP never trusted that the parliamentary politics in the South would lead to the liberation of the Tamils, but worked to expose the inability of the system itself.

‘When Tamils were deprived of a political voice, he visited foreign countries to convey the plight of his people and served as the people’s voice,’ Nadesan said.

The tribute event was held at the cultural Hall located along the A9 in Kilinochchi town at 5:30pm.

Sivanesan’s body was carried in a procession led by a marching band from the Tamileelam Police station to the Cultural Hall, where more than a thousand people paid respects to the TNA MP.

The LTTE Kilinochchi district head of its political wing, Kalaivaanan lit the common flame while Mrs Sivanesan lit the flame of sacrifice and paid floral tribute to her husband’s casket.

Sivanesan’s children followed their mother in garlanding their father’s body.

The head of LTTE Intelligence Wing, Poddu Ammaan and Senior LTTE member, KV Baalakumaran were also present at the event.

Jaffna District Head of the Consortium of Co-operative Societies, Solomon S Siril, Head of LTTE Women’s welfare and planning section, S Thamilini and several TNA MPs addressed the gathering and eulogised the slain MP for his committed and unselfish dedication to community service.

Most of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarians including Mavai Senathirajah (Jaffna), Selvam Adaikkalanathan (Vanni), Suresh Premachandran (Jaffna), Pathmini Sithamparanathan (Jaffna), S Jeyanandamoorthy (Batticaloa), K Gajendran (Jaffna), Razeen Mohamed Imam (Jaffna), P Ariyanethran (Batticaloa), Sivanathan Kishore (Vanni), Sivasakthi Anandan (Vanni), C Chandranehru (Ampaa’rai) and K Pathmanathan (Ampaa’rai) were present in Vanni to pay their last respects to the slain Jaffna district parliamentarian.

Meanwhile, the British Tamils Forum along with the rest of the Tamil community members has denounced the assassination of the Jaffna District Member of Parliament Mr K Sivanesan, by the government forces during his return to his family home at Mallaavi after attending the sessions at the House of Parliament in Colombo.

The elected Member of Parliament was targeted by the Government Forces and they exterminated him by exploding four claymore bombs in sequence to maximise the impact.

It appears the Government Forces are hell bent on eliminating Tamil persons by using any means to satisfy their greed to wage war against the Tamils. It is a well-known fact that the government forces do not understand the convention not to kill a messenger while he/she is on a mission and on this occasion as well as in the past they are terrorising the Tamil community by targeting those people who are at the front seeking a peaceful settlement to the ethnic strife.

This public demonstration by the Sri Lankan Government of terrorism on Tamils and on a Parliamentarian will be in the public domain for a very long time to come.

The British Tamils Forum in condemning this atrocious action by the forces yearns for the well meaning Governments of other countries and the United Nations to take note of this Government’s terrorism which continues unabated for a long time.

It is also worthy to note that the International Independent Group of Eminent Persons who were invited by the President to investigate the killing and murder of 17 aid workers who worked for Action Centre La Faim are leaving the country without achieving anything after more than two years because of non co-operation by the government officials.
