TUC must act by calling a general strike in support of Palestine!

THE mass burial of 112 Palestinians, whose bodies were recovered from the rubble of an apartment bloc in Gaza nearly three years after an Israeli airstrike, is an enduring testimony to the Zionist regime’s crimes of genocide against Palestinians.

40 children were among those killed in what was one of the deadliest Israeli strikes on residential homes on 22 November 2023. A total of 308 men, women and children were killed when Israeli planes bombed buildings they had fled to seeking shelter.

Khalil al-Hayya, head of Hamas Political Bureau, described this monstrous attack on residential homes as one of the deadliest massacres carried out during Israels’ genocidal war on Gaza.

He said: ‘The blood of these martyrs will remain a living testimony to the scale of the crimes committed against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.’

During the funeral, Gaza Civil Defence spokesman, Mahmoud Basal, appealed to the international community asking why children in Gaza continued to be killed.

He urged people around the world to respond to the suffering of Palestinians.

At least 7,400 Palestinians have been reported by families and relatives as still buried under the rubble in Gaza, while the true number is most probably thousands higher, because entire families have been killed, leaving no one to report them missing.

Since Israel launched its genocidal war in October 2023, over 73,381 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, the majority being women and children, with 174,231 injured, according to medical sources.

Since the ‘ceasefire’ on October 11 last year, Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) have killed 1,254, while the number of injured has risen to 4,121.

Meanwhile, the Zionist state has massively increased its attacks on Palestinians and their property across the occupied West Bank.

According to the monthly report by the Palestinian Colonisation and Wall Resistance Commission, IOF and illegal Israeli settlers carried out 2,256 attacks on Palestinians and their property last month.

1,458 attacks were carried out by the IOF and 798 by illegal settlers, usually under the protection of Israeli troops.

The report recorded that July attacks killed seven Palestinians, including four killed during an illegal settler attack on a village.

Israeli settlers uprooted, damaged or poisoned 5,027 trees, including 3,241 olive trees, carried out 440 attacks on Palestinian property and farmland and committed 23 acts of theft or confiscation of Palestinian property.

Zionist genocide is being committed before the eyes of the world with tens of millions of workers and youth taking to the streets in the US, UK, Europe and across the globe in support of the Palestinian right to their land and for the independent state of Palestine.

This has brought them into a sharp conflict with their governments whose support for Israel enables the Zionists to carry on.

The working class has the power to end this complicity with genocide by forcing the TUC, here in the UK, to end its policy of sitting back and offering just pious expressions of support for the Palestinians and to immediately call a general strike to bring down the Labour government and bring in a workers government and socialism.

A workers government will immediately recognise the independent State of Palestine and provide it with all the means and support required to ensure the victory of the Palestinian Revolution!
