LIBYAN government forces yesterday continued to heroically drive back the NATO- backed NTC counter-revolutionaries at Sirte, inflicting deadly blows on the mercenaries.

Gadaffi loyalists have killed over a hundred and wounded several hundreds more NTC terrorists since Friday, despite a NATO sea blockade and air strikes.

There was particularly fierce fighting around the Ouagadougou conference centre.

NTC mercenaries bombarded the city with artillery shells but could make no headway against the heavily fortified centre.

Bani Walid is also still under control of Libyan government forces, where Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gadaffi’s son, Saif al-Islam, is believed to be.

Damascus-based pro-Gadaffi Al-Ra’y TV on Saturday continued to report military successes for pro-Gadaffi forces near Sirte.

The regular ‘Libya News’ programme at 0603 gmt focused on both Sirte and Bani Walid.

The presenter said that NATO aircraft and anti-Gadaffi forces had ‘randomly bombarded’ Sirte, the ground forces using Grad rockets and heavy artillery.

Thirteen people have died (mainly women and children), and mosques have been targeted, which meant they were closed for Friday prayers, he said, giving a detailed account of destruction and casualties at the city’s Ibn Sina hospital.

‘On the other hand,’ he said, ‘mujahidin forces defeated the NATO agents and thwarted the attack on the city since dawn today (7 October) from all directions.’

He added: ‘Volunteers in Sirte managed to kill 50 NATO mercenaries and agents in a suicide operation at the eastern gate of the city.’

In news from the ‘Bani Walid front’, a ‘leader of NATO agents has been captured and dozens killed’, said the presenter.
