May begs EU for further delay! Workers must rise for a ‘no deal’ break with the EU on April 12!

TORY PM Theresa May has written to the President of the European Council Donald Tusk begging for yet another delay to Brexit, this time until the 30th June.

The UK is currently due to leave the EU on 12 April and, as no withdrawal deal has been approved by MPs, the default position remains: To leave on the 12 April with no deal.

In her ‘Dear Donald’ letter, she writes: ‘Unless we agree a further extension at the European Council you have convened for 10 April, the United Kingdom will leave the European Union without a deal at 23:00 BST on 12 April 2019.’

In her letter, May, in an extraordinary capitulation, has said that the UK is prepared to participate in European elections. This would obviously be the ultimate humiliation: to be forced to field candidates to the very institution 17.4 million UK citizens instructed Parliament to break from.

Her letter states: ‘It remains the Government’s view that, despite this request to extend the Article 50 period, it is in the interests of neither the United Kingdom as a departing Member State, nor the European Union as a whole, that the United Kingdom holds elections to the European Parliament.’

‘However,’ the letter continues, ‘The United Kingdom accepts the European Council’s view that if the United Kingdom were still a Member State of the European Union on 23 May 2019, it would be under a legal obligation to hold elections. The Government is therefore undertaking the lawful and responsible preparations for this contingency, including by making the Order that sets the date of the poll.’

May has embraced the EU’s humiliating plans, to make the UK a laughing stock, parading it around Europe, showing to one and all who is the serf and who is the master, an example to any other European state that is thinking of breaking with the EU. And there are a lot of them … Greek workers voted out, as did Irish workers, only to be subjected to either second referendums or open betrayal. The ‘Yellow Vests’ are on the march in France demanding ‘Frexit’ and the Catalonians want to break from Spain, all part of the break-up of the European Union.

In the last week, PM May has reached out to Labour, who have eagerly plunged themselves into joint talks with the Tories, discussing how best to undo Brexit: a second referendum, permanent membership to the Customs Union and Single Market. A would-be national government is struggling to assemble itself.

These are revolutionary times: the two party system of rule in Britain with Tory and Labour alternating has completely broken down. Parliamentary order has been turned on its head, and there is an attempt coup taking place by a parliamentary rabble.

An unholy alliance between Labour’s right-wing  remainer Yvette Cooper and the Tories’ Oliver Letwin produced a motion to rule out no deal and command the government by law to call for a long extension.

This would be a parliamentary first: This is not a government motion, or a motion from any opposition party, but a motion from a cross-party ‘unofficial opposition’ to change the law in this country.  And the Cooper-Letwin motion passed by a single vote!

It turns out the decisive vote was cast by disgraced former Labour MP Fiona Onasanya who came in to the House of Commons on Wednesday especially, despite being on a tag after serving a prison term and receiving a criminal record. The motion has to pass through the House of Lords and gain royal assent, which is not guaranteed as the Cooper-Letwin motion has sidestepped ‘Her Majesty’s Government’.

The way forward has become clear to millions of workers. They must rise up to stop Brexit being stabbed in the back by a Tory-Labour national coalition conspiracy. The UK must leave the EU without a deal on April 12, and the working class must bring down the May government and replace it with a workers’ government, and socialism.

Now is the time for the working class to take action and seize the power itself. A socialist revolution in Britain will set the stage for a European-wide socialist revolution!
