‘WE urge all trade unions to follow Unite’s example and back our March to defend Chase Farm, Hospital’ states Bill Rogers, Secretary of NE London Council of Action.

Unite wrote:

Hi Bill

You sent an invitation to our general secretary, Len McCluskey, for this demonstration. Len is unable to attend but I shall be attending on behalf of Unite and we have circulated details of the demo to our NHS reps in London.

I look forward to meeting you and your colleagues next Saturday.

‘As the government continues to bring in more privatisation and destroy the NHS, this is the time to take action,’ Rogers continued.

‘There has been huge support from inside the hospital, from local people in Enfield, from other hospital workers such as Haringey Unison, Waltham Forest Unison, QE2 hospital workers in Welwyn Garden City, and from all over London as huge cuts are being carried out seriously endangering healthcare provision.

‘We are ready to occupy the hospital to keep the A&E, maternity and paediatric services open at Chase Farm and maintain it as a District General Hospital.

‘From early in the new year we are organising a daily picket so we are ready to meet any closure plans by Lansley & co.

‘The NHS saves lives every day. We appeal to you all to join our march this Saturday and make it a show of strength against this government’s cuts and closure plans.’
