Libyan forces strike NATO’s agents

AT 2109 gmt on Sunday, pro-Gadaffi Damascus-based Al-Ra’y TV reported that Bani Walid, 150km southeast of the Libyan capital Tripoli, had rejected negotiations with NATO’s counter-revolutionaries.

Al-Ra’y TV (owned by Iraqi former MP Mish’an al-Juburi) broadcast a short news bulletin summarising the main events that took place on Sunday.

‘City of Bani Walid shuts windows of negotiations with the councOil of NATO agents. Steadfast Bani Walid rejected today to negotiate, reiterating the pledge of resistance.

‘NATO renews bombing of residential quarters in Sirte to force the city into surrender.

‘Five NATO agents were killed today in clashes with Libyan Army forces in Al-Shati’ district south of Libya.

‘Libyan forces ambushed NATO agents who were trying to enter Bretmah, south of Libya. They were forced to flee and withdrew to the edges of the area.

‘NATO kills five of its agents in what it says was a “mistake”. Clearly, after their goals were achieved, the aggression is now ridding itself of the agents who cooperated with it.

‘Libyan Army forces repel 36 NATO-agents’ pickup trucks in Sabha. Ten agents were killed.

Meanwhile, Al-Jazeera reported that rebel leaders said that negotiations over the peaceful handover of the loyalist town of Bani Walid had collapsed and NATO-led fighters had surrounded the city.

Al Jazeera’s Sue Turton, reporting from near Bani Walid on Sunday, said the rebels were hoping the people in the town will rise up against supporters of Gadaffi.
